Shail Kaushal, a 22 years old bright young man based in Auckland has made a mark in the history of New Zealand by winning one of the memorable political elections this month. This makes him the “First Indian born to be elected in a Local Government Election in Auckland, and the only Asian Youth so far to have won an election in New Zealand. He is also the First Immigrant to be elected from Mt Roskill in a Local Government Election and One of the youngest elected members in Auckland Council Election 2016”.

Shail had contested his first election in 2013 as a teenaged candidate, his hard campaigning and 6-8 hours’ daily door-knocking had significantly contributed to Roskill Community Voice to be the first progressive team to win a majority at the local government level in Mt Roskill since the Second World War, and now in 2016 he has won and added the fifth seat first time for his team.

Shail is already well known as the Youngest Chairperson in the country heading a large Electorate Committee in Mt Roskill for Labour Party (New Zealand’s mainstream political party).
